As we enter the middle of March, I want to encourage y’all that a failed resolution doesn’t mean a failed relationship with God. As humans, we tend to measure our worth and performance based on how well we do something or what we can accomplish. God does not measure our worth this way. God sees us as His children. 1 John 3:1 states, “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” We are His children. That title is where our worth is found. God doesn’t look at the missed days in our Bible plan and deem us unworthy of love. He is abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Psalm 86:15). When we stray, He is right there waiting for us to come back. When we are unfaithful, He is faithful. We will never be enough, but God sent Jesus to be enough. We cannot achieve perfection, we are human.
We need to stop chasing perfection because perfection died on the cross and rose again three days later for humanity.
When we chase perfection like it is a medal to be won, we are putting our focus on what we can do rather than on what God has already done and will continue to do. We cannot do anything that will ever amount to perfection and WE DON’T HAVE TO! God sent His perfect son to be the perfect sacrifice. God cares about our relationship with Him. Every day will look different, but when God is a part of every moment that’s where the relationship is nourished.
The checked box on your phone or in a notepad doesn’t determine the depth and authenticity of your relationship with Christ. Our heart posture is what matters to God. A humble heart that is yearning to grow closer to God and live life for Him is what He desires.
Y’all, the need for perfection died when Jesus died and rose again. As sons and daughters, we have been crucified with Christ.
Christ lives in us and that enables us to drop the chains of perfection that may be binding us to shame and guilt and to freely walk hand in hand with God (Galatians 2:20).
God is a God of boundless grace. He is patient, kind, and faithful. He wants relationship not perfection. We can come to Him in our brokenness because our past and future sins have been covered by the precious blood of Jesus. Romans 5:8 states, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” We are not bound by perfection and I want to encourage you to live in freedom today! If you have missed days your Bible plan, empty pages in your prayer journal, or a dusty Bible cover; God is waiting for you to draw near to Him.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:8).
Missed days don’t mean you are unworthy of God’s unfailing love.
Our relationship with God is not determined by what we can do. It rests on our heart posture as we lower ourselves to the foot of the cross and rely on Jesus to bring us into the family of God(1 Peter 1:3-5).
Beloved, you are dearly loved by God. Draw near to Him today because He is faithful.
