The story behind the name tags begins my second summer of camp when I am sitting listening to a sermon and I get a gut feeling that I am going to be the next person who shares their testimony in front of the campers the upcoming week. I took a note in my notes app as the idea came to me and all it said was “name tags.” Fast forward to the next day when I was overflowing with joy and excitement because I had been asked to share my testimony the next week! I took that idea that was put on my heart and thought about it some more. I planned to create a name tag with all the old ways I used to measure my worth and define myself and through my testimony, I would place them on myself as I told the story. I would close the story by me removing the name tags and saying “I am not defined by ____” and then once all of the name tags were removed I put on “Hello, my name is Child of God.” This was a powerful illustration of how we are identified by God when we become His children through accepting salvation. I wanted to use this illustration on a clothing item to encourage others to drop the old ways they used to define themselves and to find their identity in Christ. Just like a nametag for a job gives you confidence and authority in the space you work, wearing your true identity gives you the confidence to speak it over yourself and to others.
When we accept salvation through Jesus Christ we become God’s children. We take of the old and put on the new. I want to encourage you to do that today. Take of the old that is holding you back and put on the new!
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
“to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24 ESV

You actually make it seem really easy with your presentation however I to find this topic
to be actually something which I think I’d never
understand. It seems too complicated and extremely wide for me.
